Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
About the concert
På svenskaOne of the most influential voices in jazz joins the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for Big Band Holidays – a festive Christmas programme.
Wynton Marsalis appears at Konserthuset, joined by the legendary Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra – an ensemble of some of today’s finest jazz musicians.
Since 1988, the orchestra has been the heart of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, based at Frederick P. Rose Hall – “The House of Swing”. Under Marsalis’s direction, the ensemble has developed a repertoire spanning from the historical roots of jazz to newly composed works. Here, music by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk meets new compositions and arrangements – including those by Marsalis himself. A festive Christmas programme is promised for this concert.
Wynton Marsalis is a multiple Grammy Award winner and the first jazz composer to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Born in New Orleans and educated at Juilliard, he has for more than four decades combined virtuosity with a deep commitment to the history and future of jazz.
We also hear two outstanding vocal soloists: Catherine Russell, a Grammy Award-winning singer with deep roots in swing and blues, and Georgia Heers, a rising young vocalist making a name for herself on the New York jazz scene.
Jazz at Lincoln Center also has an extensive educational mission, reaching more than 100,000 young people each year through concerts, workshops and school programmes.
