Lied Concert with Sterby and Wallroth

For the Lied concert series, pianist Magnus Svensson invites a hand-picked group of artists from the world’s opera and concert stages. At this concert, we meet two rising Swedish stars poised to make their mark both nationally and internationally: soprano Matilda Sterby and mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth (younger sister of soprano Johanna Wallroth).

In recent seasons, Matilda Sterby has appeared in roles at Malmö Opera and the Gothenburg Opera, and made her debut at the Volksoper in Vienna as Magda in Puccini’s La rondine. She has also sung Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Countess in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Hanover State Opera.

With a repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary music – including opera, Lied and oratorio – mezzo-soprano Rebecka Wallroth is gaining increasing international recognition. She has appeared at the Staatsoper Berlin as Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen and Carlotta in Richard Strauss’s Die schweigsame Frau. She was also praised for her debut with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Lili Boulanger’s Faust et Hélène.

Together with pianist Magnus Svensson, Matilda Sterby and Rebecka Wallroth now present songs by Rebecca Clarke, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Johannes Brahms, Ingeborg von Bronsart and Antonín Dvořák. Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of the Lied concert series for several seasons. In addition to his concert engagements throughout the Nordic region and the rest of Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the United States.
