José Moreira
Principal and member of the orchestra since 2025.
José Moreira began his musical journey in Portugal, studying with Alexander Samardjiev and later with Manuel Rêgo. He moved to London to pursue studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with Luis Cabrera and Rinat Ibragimov. After completing his studies, he was selected for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Academy in Amsterdam.
Shortly after his time in Amsterdam, José Moreira joined the London Symphony Orchestra as a tutti double bass player. With this orchestra, he toured extensively across Europe, Asia, the United States and South America, performing in some of the world’s most iconic venues. Following two seasons with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, he was appointed to his current position as Principal Double Bass in Stockholm.
Alongside his orchestral positions, José Moreira has frequently performed with the Royal Opera House – Covent Garden, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He also appears regularly at international festivals, performing with ensembles such as the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Utopia Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
